I was just bit by a dog what should I do?

First and foremost, you should go to the hospital and seek the appropriate medical treatment. After you are discharged from the hospital you should report the dog bite to the local authorities that have not already been notified by the hospital. For example, the police and animal control.

If you know the people who own the dog, you may want to ask them if they have the records of the dog's rabies vaccination and if the dog had ever previously bit someone. Go to your family doctor and get a routine check up in regard to your dogbite.

Follow-up with any and all referrals from the hospital to any specialists. After you have completed your treatment go back to your family doctor to see if that doctor thinks you are finished with your treatment.

I am a dog lover. While I got bit by the dog, I am afraid to call animal control because I am worried that they may put down the dog, what should I do?

If the dog has bitten someone previously, or if the dog is particularly violent, animal control may put the dog down for the safety of other people in the neighborhood including unsuspecting children.
